Waukesha County Public Health Awarded Pathways Recognition Through the Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB)
Waukesha County Public Health, a division of Health and Human Services, has been recognized with the prestigious Pathways Recognition by the Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB). Established in 2007, PHAB is the non-profit organization that administers national accreditation and recognition programs, which aim to advance and transform public health practice by championing performance improvement, strong infrastructure, and innovation.

To be Pathways recognized, health departments must successfully meet the full set of national consensus standards set forth by PHAB. These standards, or foundational public health services, define the minimum package of public health capabilities that no jurisdiction can be without. To achieve Pathways recognition, health departments must meet 34 measures divided into two tracks: Services and Partnerships and Health Department Systems.
"The Pathways Recognition Program is a significant milestone in a health department’s performance improvement journey," said PHAB President and CEO Dr. Joneigh Khaldun, MD, MPH, FACEP. "It helps departments identify priority areas for improvement, demonstrate foundational capabilities, and make meaningful progress toward full accreditation."
Waukesha County Public Health works to protect, promote, and improve health through disease prevention, emergency preparedness, environmental health, community partnerships, education, and data-driven planning. The department collaborates with healthcare systems, community organizations, and local leaders to identify priorities and advance coordinated, evidence-based solutions that help residents live healthier, safer lives.
